Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them few options but to head to the remote area in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
